Re-Roper

Terms of Use

The agreement for using the Re-Roper app and re-roper.com. Effective October 12, 2026.

The short version

  • Every figure Re-Roper gives is an estimate. A qualified person must verify it independently before it is used on a real job.
  • Re-Roper is a simulation app. Nothing it produces, including its reports and job packets, is an official record, and none of it may be relied on or presented as proof in any legal, regulatory, inspection, insurance, or contractual matter.
  • Re-Roper is for qualified elevator personnel, and for apprentices only under a qualified mechanic's direct supervision. It is not engineering services and does not replace the code.
  • Your job data is yours. We use it only to run Re-Roper for you.
  • Re-Roper Pro, which opens every calculator and syncs your jobs, costs $4.99 a month plus any sales tax. It renews every month until you cancel, and you can cancel online at any time. On re-roper.com, Stripe bills your card; in the iPhone app, you buy it through Apple, which bills your Apple Account and handles cancelling and refunds. Without it you can still work out one elevator's rope length through Guided Setup. Section 11 explains billing, cancelling, and refunds.
  • Re-Roper comes with no warranty, and our liability is limited as section 14 explains.

These summaries do not replace the terms below. Section 2, the safety notice, is the most important part.

These terms are an agreement between you and Kristian Caroe Klausen, the individual who runs Re-Roper (“we,” “us,” and “our”). They cover the Re-Roper app and the website re-roper.com.

1. Accepting these terms

By using Re-Roper or creating an account, you agree to these terms. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information. If you do not agree, do not use Re-Roper.

2. Safety notice: Simulation Only

Re-Roper shows this notice every time it opens:

Simulation Only

Re-Roper is a simulation app. It estimates elevator roping dimensions for reference and simulation purposes only. It is not a substitute for the job's contract documents, ASME A17.1/CSA B44 or EN 81 as applicable, or the equipment manufacturer's procedures.

Every figure this app produces must be independently verified before it is used on an actual job. Misapplied roping, block-up, or rope-length figures can result in equipment damage, serious injury, or death.

Nothing Re-Roper produces (figures, checklists, notes, photos, reports, or job packets) is an engineering document, an inspection or test report, a certificate of compliance, or an official record. It must not be relied on, or presented as proof, in any legal, regulatory, inspection, insurance, or contractual matter.

Accepting this notice is a condition of using Re-Roper. Here is what it means:

  • Every figure is an estimate. Rope lengths, rope stretch, counterweight settlement, block-up, clearances, factors of safety, and every other result are estimates. They are built from what you enter, from published catalog data, and from engineering assumptions. Real ropes, equipment, and hoistways vary. A result that passes a check, or is rated “job-specific,” is still an estimate.
  • Verify every figure before you use it. Before any figure is used on a real job, a qualified person must check it independently against the job's contract documents, the code that applies, and the equipment manufacturer's procedures and data.
  • Re-Roper does not replace the code. The Code Reference is a short checklist, not the code itself. It cites section numbers from ASME A17.1-2019 and ASME A17.6, notes older numbers where a rule moved, and on some cards gives manufacturer practice rather than code. Your job may be governed by a different edition, by CSA B44 or EN 81, or by state or local rules. California's Elevator Safety Orders, for example, apply different rules to elevators depending on when they were installed. Follow the code that your authority having jurisdiction enforces.
  • Catalog data can be wrong. Re-Roper includes figures from manufacturers' published catalogs and manuals and, where a maker publishes none, from parts-trade listings and published research. They may be incomplete, out of date, or wrong for your equipment. Check the nameplate and the manufacturer's current documents.
  • For qualified personnel only. Re-Roper is for trained, qualified elevator mechanics and technicians who hold any license or certification their state requires and who work for a properly licensed or certified elevator company. Apprentices and trainees may use Re-Roper only under the direct supervision of such a qualified mechanic, who checks every figure before it is used. Using Re-Roper does not qualify or authorize anyone to work on an elevator. In California, for example, elevator work must be done by a state-certified qualified conveyance company.
  • Not engineering services. Re-Roper is software. It does not provide engineering, inspection, or consulting services. Its results are not sealed or stamped engineering documents.
  • Not an official record, and not for legal use. Nothing Re-Roper produces (figures, checklists, notes, photos, reports, or job packets) is an engineering document, an inspection or test report, a certificate of compliance, or an official record. A job packet's checklist, sign-off, notes, and photos are what its user entered; Re-Roper does not check them. Do not rely on anything Re-Roper produces, or present it as proof, in any legal, regulatory, inspection, insurance, or contractual matter, such as a lawsuit, an insurance claim, an inspection, or a dispute with a customer, a contractor, or a code authority. If you or anyone you give it to does, that is at your own risk.
  • You are responsible. You alone decide whether and how to use any figure. You are responsible for the work, the equipment, and the safety of everyone around it. You use Re-Roper's figures at your own risk.

If you cannot accept this notice, do not use Re-Roper.

3. Who may use Re-Roper

You must be at least 18 years old and able to make a binding contract. You must also meet the “qualified personnel only” rule in section 2, including its supervision rule for apprentices and trainees.

4. Your account

  • You can sign up with an email address and a password, or sign in with Google or Apple. Signing in with Google or Apple is also covered by their terms.
  • Use an email address where you can receive mail. We send account and security emails there. To change it, email support@re-roper.com; Re-Roper has no way for you to change it yourself yet.
  • Keep your password and the codes we email you private. You are responsible for what happens under your account. If you think someone else has used it, email support@re-roper.com right away.
  • On a shared phone, sign out when you are done. On a shared computer, signing out is not enough: your jobs stay in that browser, where anyone who uses it can open them on the website, so also clear the browser's saved data for re-roper.com, as the Privacy Policy explains.

5. Your job data

  • You own it. The jobs, measurements, and notes you enter belong to you, or to whoever you do the work for. We claim no ownership of them.
  • What you allow us to do. You allow us to store, copy, sync, back up, and display your job data, only to run Re-Roper for you, to fix problems and investigate misuse as the Privacy Policy describes, and to meet legal obligations. This permission ends when you delete the data or your account, except for copies in backups until those expire and anything the law requires us to keep.
  • Your responsibility. Make sure you are allowed to put the information into Re-Roper. This matters most for your employer's or customer's job details, such as addresses and contract numbers. Enter only what the job needs, such as the site address. Do not put people's names, phone numbers, or other personal details in notes or other text fields. You are responsible for the accuracy of what you enter.
  • Keep your own records. Synced data can be lost. Each elevator syncs as one record. If the same elevator is changed on two devices before they sync, the change with the later time on its device's clock wins and the other change is lost; renaming a job changes every elevator in it. If a different account signs in on a device, the jobs saved there are removed from that device, unless some of them hold changes that never synced; then they stay, and nothing syncs on that device until the account they belong to signs back in there with Re-Roper Pro and those changes reach it. Re-Roper has no export feature yet. Keep your own record of any figure you rely on.
  • Limits. Each account can hold up to 2,000 elevator records, and each record has a size limit. Deleted records still count toward the 2,000. We may change these limits.

6. Acceptable use

Do not:

  • break the law, or anyone's rights, with Re-Roper;
  • try to get into another person's account or data, or into our servers, database, or code beyond normal use of the app and website;
  • scan, probe, or test Re-Roper for security weaknesses without our written permission (if you find a security problem, please tell us at support@re-roper.com);
  • overload or disrupt Re-Roper, or use bots or scripts to create accounts or copy content in bulk;
  • upload malware or anything else harmful;
  • copy, sell, rent, or resell Re-Roper or its content;
  • hide or remove the Simulation Only notice, in the app, on the website, or on a job packet, or present Re-Roper's figures, reports, or job packets to anyone as verified, sealed, certified, or approved by a manufacturer, an engineer, an inspector, or a code authority, or as an official record;
  • use Re-Roper in any way that puts people or equipment at risk.

7. Our software and content

Re-Roper's software, design, text, illustrations, and logo are owned by us or our licensors. We give you permission to use Re-Roper under these terms, including for your work. The permission is yours alone: it is not exclusive, and you cannot transfer it. We can withdraw it if you break these terms. Nothing else is granted. Open-source software and fonts in Re-Roper are licensed under their own licenses, and nothing in these terms limits your rights under them.

If you send us ideas or suggestions, we may use them without owing you anything.

8. Other companies' names and data

Re-Roper names equipment makers, rope makers, and standards bodies, such as KONE, Montgomery, Hollister-Whitney, Wittur, Draka (Prysmian), Gustav Wolf, Crosby, ASME, and CSA. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of them. Their names and trademarks belong to their owners. Figures from their catalogs and manuals are shown for reference and may contain errors.

9. Testing and changes to Re-Roper

Re-Roper is still being tested and improved. Features may change, break, or be removed, and data may be lost. Re-Roper Pro is a paid subscription, which accounts we have given free access get without paying; section 11 explains billing and what you can do without a subscription. At any time when we do not require a subscription, every part of Re-Roper is open to everyone, and nothing in section 11 limits what you can use. We may change, suspend, or stop any part of Re-Roper, and we may set limits on its use. If a change takes away something your subscription is for, we will tell you before it applies, and you can cancel. If we stop Re-Roper completely, we will tell you at least 30 days ahead, stop the renewals of subscriptions bought on re-roper.com, and refund the part of any charge on re-roper.com that covers time after Re-Roper stops. For a subscription bought in the iPhone app, we will tell you how to cancel it in the App Store and how to ask Apple for a refund.

10. App stores

If you get the app from Apple's App Store or Google Play, that store's terms also apply. For an app from the App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement governs your license to the app itself. These terms govern everything else, including your account, your job data, the website, and the safety notice in section 2. If the two conflict about the app license, Apple's agreement controls. Your subscription is governed by these terms wherever you buy it, and section 11 explains billing in each place. If you subscribe in the iPhone app, Apple sells the subscription for us, as our agent, bills you under its own terms, and handles cancelling and refunds for it. Apple and Google are not responsible for Re-Roper or its support.

11. Subscriptions and billing

Re-Roper Pro is Re-Roper's monthly subscription: it opens every calculator and syncs your jobs. In these terms, and in the boxes you tick when you subscribe, it is also called your subscription or your Re-Roper subscription. Accounts we have given free access get it without paying. This section explains what it costs, how you are billed, how to cancel, and what you can do without a subscription. You can subscribe on re-roper.com or, on an iPhone, in the Re-Roper app through Apple's In-App Purchase; the two are billed differently, as this section explains. The page where you subscribe shows these terms in short before you pay. If we stop requiring a subscription for a time, everything in Re-Roper is open to everyone and every account syncs until we require one again; what this section says about using Re-Roper without a subscription applies only while we require one.

  • Who can subscribe. Subscriptions are offered only to people in the United States.
  • What you get. A subscription opens every calculator and every job in the Re-Roper app and on re-roper.com, and syncs your jobs between your devices and the website. If you buy it in the iPhone app without an account, it opens Re-Roper in the app on that iPhone. Once you sign in to a Re-Roper account in the app, the subscription goes with that account to re-roper.com and your other devices, and your jobs sync. In the app, Restore Purchases brings back a subscription bought with the same Apple Account.
  • Without a subscription. You can set up one elevator on one job, on your phone or in your browser, and get its length per rope and order length through Guided Setup and the Rope Length Calculator. Nothing syncs: the jobs on a phone or in a browser stay there, and the jobs already synced to your account stay in it and sync again if you subscribe. You can also create an account, sign in, read these terms and the Privacy Policy, delete jobs from your phone or browser, cancel a subscription, and delete your account.
  • Price. $4.99 a month in US dollars, plus any sales tax that applies. There is no minimum term, sign-up fee, or cancellation fee.
  • Automatic renewal. Your subscription starts when you pay. It renews automatically every month, at the price in effect then, until you cancel. To avoid the next month's charge, cancel before your renewal date; for a subscription bought in the iPhone app, cancel at least 24 hours before it.
  • How you are billed on re-roper.com. Our payment processor, Stripe, bills your card. We charge it when you subscribe, then on the same day each month, or on the last day of a shorter month. The charge shows on your statement as RE-ROPER.
  • How you are billed in the iPhone app. You buy through Apple's In-App Purchase, and Apple bills your Apple Account: when you confirm the purchase, then within the 24 hours before each new month starts. The charge comes from Apple, on Apple's receipt, and we never see your payment details. The Android app does not sell subscriptions; subscribe on re-roper.com instead.
  • How to cancel on re-roper.com. You can cancel a subscription bought on re-roper.com at any time, online, without contacting us: on your Profile page at re-roper.com, under Subscription, choose Cancel subscription. You can also email support@re-roper.com, and we will cancel it for you; we act on emails within one business day. Deleting the app, or no longer using Re-Roper, does not cancel a subscription.
  • How to cancel in the App Store. Only you can cancel a subscription bought in the iPhone app; we cannot cancel it for you. On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then Re-Roper, and cancel it there. Manage in the App Store, in the app's Settings, opens the same page, and so does Manage in the App Store under Subscription on your Profile page at re-roper.com. Cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date to avoid the next charge. Deleting the app does not cancel it.
  • When cancelling takes effect. Renewal stops as soon as you cancel. You keep access until the end of the month you have already paid for, and then it stops. We email you to confirm the cancellation; for a subscription bought in the iPhone app, we can do that only once you have signed in to a Re-Roper account in the app.
  • Refunds. For a subscription bought on re-roper.com, we do not refund part of a month. We do refund a charge made by mistake, such as a duplicate charge or a charge after you cancelled. We also refund in the cases under Price changes below and in sections 9 and 12. Only Apple can refund a purchase made in the iPhone app: Apple decides App Store refunds, and you ask for one at reportaproblem.apple.com. Nothing in these terms takes away a refund that the law gives you.
  • Price changes. We may change the price for a clear reason, such as a change in our costs, in taxes, or in what the subscription includes. For a subscription bought on re-roper.com, we will email you the new price, the reason, and the date it starts, at least 10 days and no more than 30 days before it applies, and tell you how to cancel. If you do not want to pay the new price, cancel before it starts. If you are charged a higher price that you did not agree to, you can cancel within 14 days of that charge (or email us), and we will end the subscription then and refund the unused part of that month. For a subscription bought in the iPhone app, Apple tells you about a price increase before it applies and, where Apple's rules require it, asks you to agree; if you do not agree, Apple ends the subscription before the new price is charged. You can also cancel before it applies.
  • Other changes. If we change anything else about your subscription that matters, such as what it includes, we will tell you before the change applies, and tell you how to cancel.
  • Free trials and offers. We do not offer free trials, promotion codes, or discounts now. If we do, the offer will say how long it lasts, what you will pay after it, the date of your first full charge, and how to cancel before then.
  • If a payment fails. For a subscription bought on re-roper.com, we try the payment again, and you keep access for up to 7 days while we do. If it still fails, your subscription ends, and you can subscribe again at any time. You can update your card on your Profile page at re-roper.com: under Subscription, choose Manage subscription. For a subscription bought in the iPhone app, Apple tries the payment again on its own schedule, and you keep access during Apple's billing grace period, when there is one. After that, access stops until Apple collects the payment. Update your payment method in your iPhone's Settings, under your name.
  • When a subscription ends. The pages that need a subscription lock again, and your jobs stop syncing. The jobs on your phone or in your browser stay there, where you can still open each one's hub and Guided Setup, and delete it from that phone or browser. Your account and the jobs synced to it stay saved until you delete your account (sections 5 and 12). If you subscribe again, your jobs sync again; until then, you can email us for a copy of the ones in your account.
  • Deleting your account. Deleting your account cancels a subscription bought on re-roper.com at once. The rest of that month is not refunded, so if you want to use it, cancel first and delete your account after the month ends. If you ask us by email to delete your account, we cancel that subscription when we receive the request and refund any charge made after it. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription bought in the iPhone app: Apple keeps charging you until you cancel it in the App Store, as above, so cancel it there first.
  • One person per subscription. A subscription is for your own account. Do not share your sign-in. Apple's Family Sharing does not cover Re-Roper Pro. If you subscribe in more than one place, each subscription bills you separately, so cancel the one you do not need. While a subscription bought in the iPhone app is active on your account, re-roper.com does not let you subscribe there as well.
  • Taxes. Prices do not include sales tax. On re-roper.com, we add it at checkout where we must collect it. For a purchase in the iPhone app, Apple works out, collects, and pays the tax.
  • App Store purchases. A subscription bought in the iPhone app is also governed by Apple's terms, including its Media Services Terms and Conditions. Apple sells it for us, as our agent: it takes the payment and handles refunds and cancelling. Apple is not responsible for Re-Roper or its support; for help, email support@re-roper.com.
  • Emails about your subscription. For a subscription bought on re-roper.com, we email you when you subscribe, with these terms in short and how to cancel; after each monthly charge; when you cancel; when your subscription ends at once, such as after a payment keeps failing or when you delete your account; once a year, as a reminder; before any change to the price; and before any other change to your subscription or these terms that matters. We send them to the email address on your billing record at Stripe: your account's address or, if you sign in with Apple's Hide My Email, the address you give at checkout. You can change it under Manage subscription on your Profile page. For a subscription bought in the iPhone app, Apple sends its own receipts, and we email your account's address when you subscribe, with these terms in short and how to cancel; after each monthly charge Apple reports to us; when you cancel; when your subscription ends; once a year, as a reminder; and before any other change to your subscription or these terms that matters. We can send these only to a Re-Roper account: if you buy without signing in, we send none until you sign in in the app, and the first one, with the terms, only if you were signed in when you bought. A notice we send to every account, such as a change to these terms, goes to your account's address. They are not marketing emails.
  • Questions. Email support@re-roper.com. If a charge looks wrong, please tell us before you dispute it with your bank; we can usually fix it faster. Our address is in section 19.

At any time when we do not require a subscription, every part of Re-Roper is open to everyone, and nothing in this section limits what you can use.

12. Ending your use

  • You can stop using Re-Roper at any time. You can delete your jobs yourself. You can also delete your account yourself, in the app's Settings or on the Profile page of re-roper.com, or ask us to delete it by emailing support@re-roper.com. Deleting your account also deletes every job synced to it, and it cannot be undone. The Privacy Policy explains what is deleted and when. Stopping using Re-Roper, or deleting the app, does not cancel your subscription; section 11 explains how to cancel. Deleting your account also cancels a subscription bought on re-roper.com at once, without a refund for the rest of the month. It does not cancel one bought in the iPhone app, which only you can cancel, in the App Store (section 11).
  • We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms, if we need to protect Re-Roper, its users, or anyone else, or if the law requires it. We will tell you when we reasonably can.
  • If we close your account, we will delete it and its synced jobs as the Privacy Policy explains. Where we reasonably can, we will tell you first so you can copy anything you need. Keep your own records.
  • If we close your account because you broke these terms, we do not refund the rest of your subscription. If we close it for any other reason, we refund the part of any charge on re-roper.com that covers time after we close it. Closing your account cancels a subscription bought on re-roper.com. It cannot cancel one bought in the iPhone app, so we will tell you how to cancel it in the App Store and how to ask Apple for a refund.
  • Sections 2, 5 (for copies in backups until they expire), 7 (for ideas and suggestions you sent us), 8, 11 (for charges already made and refunds we owe), 13, 14, 15, 16, and 18 still apply after your use ends.

13. No warranty

Re-Roper is still being tested and improved, and it gives estimates. A subscription pays for access to Re-Roper as it is. Apart from what these terms and the Privacy Policy say we will do, we make no promises about it.

RE-ROPER IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITH ALL FAULTS. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR ACCURACY. WE DO NOT PROMISE THAT ANY FIGURE IS CORRECT, COMPLETE, CURRENT, OR CODE-COMPLIANT. WE DO NOT PROMISE THAT RE-ROPER WILL BE AVAILABLE, SECURE, OR FREE OF ERRORS, OR THAT YOUR DATA WILL NOT BE LOST.

Some places do not allow these disclaimers, so some of them may not apply to you.

14. Limits on our liability

You use Re-Roper and its figures at your own risk.

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS:

(A) WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, LOST DATA, DELAYS, OR WORK THAT MUST BE REDONE, ARISING FROM RE-ROPER OR THESE TERMS, EVEN IF WE WERE TOLD THEY WERE POSSIBLE.

(B) WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY EQUIPMENT DAMAGE, PROPERTY DAMAGE, PERSONAL INJURY, OR DEATH THAT RESULTS FROM USING A FIGURE FROM RE-ROPER WITHOUT VERIFYING IT INDEPENDENTLY AS SECTION 2 REQUIRES.

(C) OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO RE-ROPER OR THESE TERMS IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF $100 OR THE TOTAL AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR RE-ROPER, WHETHER TO US OR TO APPLE, IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM.

NOTHING IN THESE TERMS LIMITS LIABILITY FOR FRAUD, GROSS NEGLIGENCE, WILLFUL INJURY TO A PERSON OR PROPERTY, OR A VIOLATION OF LAW, OR ANY OTHER LIABILITY THAT THE LAW DOES NOT ALLOW TO BE LIMITED.

Some places do not allow the limitation of liability for personal injury, or for incidental or consequential damages, so some of these limits may not apply to you.

15. Your responsibility for claims

If someone else makes a claim against us that arises from your use of Re-Roper or its figures, your job data, or your breaking these terms or the law, you will, to the extent the law allows, pay our resulting losses and costs, including reasonable lawyers' fees. We may choose to defend the claim ourselves, and you will cooperate.

16. Governing law and disputes

California law governs these terms and any dispute about Re-Roper, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any such dispute will be decided in the state courts in Contra Costa County, California, or in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, and you and we agree to those courts' jurisdiction. Either of us may instead bring a claim in small claims court if it qualifies.

17. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We will post the new version and change the effective date at the top. If a change matters, we will tell you in the app, on the website, or by email before it takes effect. A change to the price or to the terms of your subscription follows the notice rules in section 11, and you can cancel before it applies. If you keep using Re-Roper after a change takes effect, you accept the new terms. If you do not agree, stop using Re-Roper and cancel your subscription (section 11). You can also delete your account, as section 12 explains.

18. General terms

  • These terms and any app store terms that apply (section 10) are the whole agreement between you and us about Re-Roper.
  • If any part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies, and that part is enforced as far as the law allows.
  • If we do not enforce a term right away, we can still enforce it later.
  • You may not transfer your rights under these terms. We may transfer them to whoever takes over Re-Roper, and we will tell you if we do.
  • We may send you notices by email to your account's address, or in Re-Roper. You can send notices to support@re-roper.com.
